Magic Dragon, Inc. Company Overview

Magic Dragon, Inc. d.b.a. Magic Dragon Restaurant is an authentic gourmet Asian Quick-Serve restaurant developed by Uwajimaya, Inc. This concept brings together an authentic popular gourmet Asian food taste with the fast-food style made popular by McDonalds.

The first Magic Dragon Restaurant opened in Seattle, Washington in November 1992. This restaurant was an instant success and the company opened two more restaurants in the Seattle market to test the validity of the concept, with outstanding results.

The developers bring considerable experience to the foundation of the concept. Uwajimaya, Inc. is the largest family-owned and operated Asian food-related business in the Pacific Northwest. Uwajimaya began in 1928, when Fujimatsu Moriguchi, a native of Uwajima City, Japan, prepared and sold fishcakes from the back of his truck to Japanese laborers working in logging camps in the Puget Sound area. Uwajimaya today has grown into a company that consists of Retail, Wholesale, Product Distribution, and Food Manufacturing and Exporting. Uwajimaya, Inc. serves over two million customers a year and employs over 530 employees.

After many inquiries from people interested in owning a Magic Dragon Restaurant, the company formed Magic Dragon Franchises, Inc. in April of 1996. Akira Moriguchi, President of Uwajimaya, Inc., together with Hide Obatake, the company's President and one of the founders, along with a team of professionals, have assembled the systems, operating procedures and proprietary food products to successfully implement a National Franchise Program.

To date, the company has 11 Franchisees, of which one is a Multi-Unit Developer.
